How I love travelling up the long shaded entrance road to Wenderholm Regional Park. It’s a welcoming nature oasis where you instantly relax and can enjoy a day with friends and family.
This is the perfect picnic spot and only 20 mins north of Auckland city. The secret is to get there early, get the car park and claim your spot.
Gear Up for a Fun Summer’s Day
Take your picnic, gas BBQ, togs, cricket set, kayak, paddle board, walking shoes, and your good to go.
There are lots of established Pohutukawa Trees so you can stay cool and shelter from the summer sun. The park is a scenic picture with the estuary on one side and the beach on the other.
The Regional Park is protected and available for people who visit to enjoy and they sure do, they come in droves. I have attended many family birthday lunch, at the park. You see many large groups gathered there on a nice day. As you can imagine the car park can get busy, that is why an early arrival is often a good idea. Especially in the summer months. There is one thing for sure. You can easily spend the entire day and there is lots of room to spread out under the many Pohutukawa’s.
There are walks you can do. Besides walking the beach and around the large grassed spaces under the many trees. There are some great walks up through the bush onto the ridge that looks down on the park and beach. The walk also continues over to Waiwera the beach to the south of Wenderholm.
A Glance at Local History
Couldrey House to which is located at the park and gives you a view to local history to check out. You can also enjoy walking around the gardens before you head off onto the walking tracks.
I look forward to many more visits to Wenderholm it is a top choice for me as a picnic spot.
